RYA Start Yachting. An Introduction To Sailing In The Solent From £199

The RYA Start Yachting course runs over 2 days from our Southampton training centre and is the perfect introduction to yacht sailing for the absolute beginner. With accommodation on board the yacht included in the course fee it is simply excellent value.

No previous knowledge of sailing is required for this course. The RYA Start Yachting course costs from just £199 per person for the full 2 day course and that includes accommodation onboard a yacht. The main purpose of the course is to give you an introduction to sailing, life on board a yacht, the parts of a yacht and generally to see if yachting is for you.

There is no need to complete the RYA start yachting course to move forward to the RYA competent crew course if you know that yachting is for you then join a 5 day competent crew course.

Why not book the entire yacht for a great family weekend or event for with friends, family or work colleagues.

The Yacht
• Basic knowledge of sea terms, parts of a boat, her rigging and sails

Ropework
• Ability to tie the following knots: figure of eight, round turn and two half hitches, bowline
• Securing a rope to a cleat
• Use of winches and jamming cleats

Underway
• Has experienced sailing a yacht on all points of sail
• Can steer a yacht under sail or power

Rules of the road
• Can keep an efficient lookout at sea

Meteorology
• Knows where to obtain a weather forecast

Man overboard recovery
• Understands the action to be taken to recover a man overboard

Clothing and equipment
• Understands and complies with the rules for the wearing of safety harnesses, lifejackets and personal buoyancy aids

Emergency equipment and precautions
• Is aware of hazards on board a yacht
• Knows the action to be taken in the event of an emergency
